Basketball totals markets focus on how many points are scored rather than who wins. Because NBA and European league games regularly produce 150–240 combined points, the totals market offers a wide range of lines and variants. The most popular is the simple Over/Under, but team totals, point range bands, 3-way totals, and Odd/Even are all widely available.
What is the Over/Under in basketball?
The Over/Under (also called "the total") asks whether the combined points scored by both teams will be above or below a set line. All points from both teams count — from regulation and, unless stated otherwise, overtime.
Example: The line is Over/Under 222.5.
- Game ends 115-110 (225 combined points) — Over wins.
- Game ends 108-102 (210 combined points) — Under wins.
- Game ends 112-111 (223 combined points) — Over wins (223 > 222.5).
Because basketball scores are always whole numbers, half-point lines (222.5, 214.5) eliminate pushes. Whole-number lines allow a push if the combined total matches exactly.
Does the Over/Under include overtime?
Most full-game totals include overtime — all points scored in any OT period count toward the total. Some bookmakers offer a regulation total that excludes overtime. If overtime is played on a regulation-only total, only the regulation points count.

What are home and away team totals?
Team totals apply the Over/Under line to a single team's points only, independent of the other team's performance. You bet on whether Team A will score over or under a set number of points — what Team B scores is irrelevant.
Example: "Lakers Over 112.5 Team Total." If the Lakers score 115 points (and the Celtics score 98), the Lakers total wins Over 112.5. The Celtics' score has no bearing on this market.
Team totals are useful when you have a strong view on one team's offensive output regardless of what the opponent does.
What is a 3-way total in basketball?
A 3-way total adds an "exact" middle outcome to the standard two-way Over/Under:
- Over the line
- Exactly the line
- Under the line
This market is only meaningful on whole-number lines, where an exact match is possible. If the line is 220 and the combined score is exactly 220, the "Exactly" selection wins. On a half-point line, the "Exactly" outcome can never occur — making the 3-way redundant. Some bookmakers label the middle outcome differently depending on the platform.
What is a point range in basketball?
A point range market divides possible totals into bands and asks you to pick which band the combined score falls into. Instead of Over or Under one number, you select a window:

All results within your selected band win. Because each band covers multiple outcomes, odds are lower than a comparable Over/Under bet — but you win across a wider range of scores.

Total Odd/Even asks whether the combined points at the end of the game will be an odd or even number. Zero counts as even. All overtime points are included unless stated otherwise.
Example: Game ends 113-108 (221 combined points — odd). Odd wins.
