Once a match finishes, how Bet9ja settles your bet follows a set of published rules. This page covers the key ones for soccer — what counts, what doesn't, and where disputes most commonly arise.
What period of play does a standard soccer bet cover?
Standard soccer markets on Bet9ja are settled on the result at the end of 90 minutes plus injury time. Extra time and penalty shootouts are excluded unless the specific market is described as including them (for example, a "including extra time" market or a cup final outright).
This applies to all the most common markets: match result (1X2), total goals (over/under), both-teams-to-score, correct score, half-time/full-time, and similar.
Do own goals count on Bet9ja?
Yes. Own goals count toward the scoring team's totals across all relevant markets. For example, if a defender puts the ball into their own net:
- It counts toward the opposing team's total goals (boosting over/under totals).
- It counts for both-teams-to-score purposes.
- It does not count as a goal for the player who put it in for any player-based markets.
How does Bet9ja handle neutral venues?
If a match is played at a neutral venue — one that is neither of the two clubs' home grounds — Bet9ja treats the first-named team as the home team for all markets involving home/away designation. The market description on the Bet9ja platform should reflect this; if there is ambiguity, the first-named team is always the "home" team for settlement purposes.
What is the transaction code and why does it matter?
A Bet9ja bet is valid only once a transaction code is generated and recorded in your account before the event starts. Bets that did not generate a transaction code — including printed slips, screenshots, or bets that were placed but failed to register — are void.
The authoritative record is your account bet list. If a bet appears there with a transaction code, it is valid. If it does not, it was not placed regardless of any other confirmation you received.
Can I cancel a confirmed bet?
No. Once a bet is confirmed and has a transaction code, customers cannot cancel or change it. This applies even if the match has not yet started and regardless of how long remains before kickoff.
What is a "related contingency" and why does it affect settlement?
A related contingency is a situation where two selections in the same bet depend on the same underlying event outcome. Bet9ja does not generally accept same-event combinations — for example, backing a team to win and also backing the first goalscorer from that team on the same betslip — unless specific combined odds are explicitly offered through Betmaker for that combination.
If such a bet is accidentally accepted, it can be voided on settlement rather than paid at the original combined odds.
