Corners and Cards Betting Explained

Corners and cards (bookings) markets are classed as "event" markets — they settle on match events rather than the final result. It does not matter who wins or how many goals are scored. These markets track specific incidents: corners awarded to each team, and yellow or red cards shown to players.

Both markets are available on major bookmakers and can be converted between SportyBet and Bet9ja using SlipMix.

Corners markets

Corner Winner (1X2)

Predicts which team wins more corners across the match, or if both teams win an equal number (draw). Uses the same 1/X/2 notation as a match result market.

Example: Home team wins 6 corners, away team wins 5 corners. If you picked 1 (home team wins the corner count), your selection wins.

Total Corners Over/Under

Predicts whether the total corners taken by both teams combined will exceed or fall short of a line. Common lines range from 8.5 to 11.5 depending on the match.

Example: You pick Over 9.5 Corners. The match produces 6 corners for the home team and 5 for the away team — 11 corners total. Over 9.5 wins. If the match produces only 8 corners total, Under 9.5 wins.

Team Total Corners

Predicts whether a specific team will win over or under a set number of corners. This is an individual team market, not combined.

Example: Home Team Total Corners Over 4.5. The home team takes 6 corners — wins. They take 4 corners — loses.

Cards / Bookings markets

Total Cards Over/Under

Predicts whether the combined total of cards shown to both teams will exceed or fall short of a line. This is where bookmaker differences matter most — see the note on counting below.

Example: You pick Over 3.5 Total Cards. The match sees 2 yellow cards for the home team and 3 yellow cards for the away team — 5 cards total. Over 3.5 wins. If the match sees only 2 yellow cards in total, Under 3.5 wins.

Team Cards

Predicts whether a specific team will receive over or under a set number of cards across the match.

First Card

Predicts which team receives the first card of the match.

How Bet9ja and SportyBet count cards

This is a critical difference between bookmakers:

  • Bet9ja uses a booking points system: yellow card = 10 points, red card = 25 points. The Over/Under line for cards on Bet9ja is expressed in points (e.g. Over 30.5 booking points) rather than a card count.
  • SportyBet typically counts cards as single units (yellow = 1, red = 1 or 2 depending on the specific market).

Always check the bookmaker's market terms before placing a cards bet. The numbers look different between platforms because of this difference in counting method.

SlipMix availability for corners and cards

SlipMix converts corners and cards markets between SportyBet and Bet9ja (SB to B9, or B9 to SB). These two bookmakers share the underlying event data needed to match these markets. Corners and cards market conversion via SlipMix does not cover 1xBet.

Converting slips with this market

For any booking code containing corners or cards selections, SlipMix can convert between SportyBet and Bet9ja. If the target is a different bookmaker, those legs will be skipped and flagged in the result.

Frequently asked questions

Do corners from extra time count? No. Standard corners markets cover 90 minutes plus stoppage time only. Corners won during extra time in a knockout match are not included in the settlement of standard corners markets.

Does a red card count as one card or two? This depends on the bookmaker. Bet9ja uses a booking points system where a yellow card = 10 points and a red card = 25 points. SportyBet typically counts cards as individual units. Because the counting methods differ, the lines expressed on each bookmaker will look different — always check the market terms.

What is the difference between Total Corners and Team Total Corners? Total Corners counts all corners taken by both teams combined in the match. Team Total Corners counts only the corners taken by one specific team. A match with 11 total corners might see them split 7-4 between the two teams.
