FPL Deadline Time in Nigeria: What Time Is the Gameweek Deadline in WAT?

The FPL Gameweek deadline is 90 minutes before the first kick-off of that Gameweek. In Nigeria, whether the UK deadline and your local WAT deadline are the same depends entirely on the time of year.

During summer (August to late October): WAT equals the UK time — no conversion needed. Both countries are on UTC+1. During winter (late October to late March): add one hour — Nigeria stays at UTC+1 while the UK moves to UTC+0.

The rule behind every deadline

The deadline is not a fixed weekly time. It shifts with the fixture list. A standard Saturday opening kick-off at 12:30 gives an 11:00 deadline, but midweek rounds, blank Gameweeks, and TV rescheduling all move it.

Once the deadline passes, everything locks: transfers are final, your captain and vice-captain are set, your bench order is fixed, and any chip you had selected commits. Anything unsaved at the moment of the deadline does not apply — an in-progress transfer is discarded, not half-applied.

The Nigeria–UK time gap

Nigeria runs on WAT (West Africa Time, UTC+1) all year. There is no daylight saving in Nigeria.

The UK changes twice a year:

The winter shortcut: whatever the UK deadline says, add one hour. An 11:00 UK deadline is noon in Lagos.

The GW19 deadline is the one that catches most managers. The chip expiry is not a soft cutoff — unused chips from the first half are gone. Confirm it in your calendar in WAT, not GMT.

Where to check the live countdown

The deadline timer appears at the top of My Team and Transfers on the website, and on the home screen of the FPL app. It renders in your device's local time — a phone set to Lagos already shows WAT. That is the safest habit: trust the in-app countdown over any UK time listed in an article, including this one.

Five habits that stop missed deadlines

Set a recurring weekly alarm. Most Gameweeks open with a Saturday 11:00 WAT deadline (summer) or 12:00 WAT deadline (winter). A Friday-evening alarm gives you the night before.
Set a second alarm 30 minutes before the deadline. The first alarm is for planning. The second is for saving changes.
Add calendar entries in WAT. If you use a fixture calendar, convert times to WAT at the point of entry — not during a busy Saturday morning.
Make the transfer when you decide it. If you know you want a change, save it immediately. Waiting creates the window where you miss it.
Always keep a valid vice-captain. If your captain is ruled out after the deadline and your vice-captain also did not play, the armband passes to your first-eligible auto-sub. A live vice-captain is your safety net.

What happens if you miss the deadline

Nothing breaks catastrophically. Your previous Gameweek's XI rolls over with the same captain, vice-captain, and bench order. An in-progress transfer is not applied. An unspent free transfer still banks, up to the 5-transfer maximum.

The real cost is the stale squad: the injured striker you left in, the captain on suspension, the bench out of order so the wrong player auto-subbed on. Missing the deadline is not a penalty in points — it is all the points you did not earn.
