1X2 is the foundational football betting market. You pick one of three outcomes for the full match result — home win, draw, or away win. It is the first market listed on every bookmaker and the one most slips include at least one selection from.
What 1, X, and 2 mean
The numbers and letter come from the traditional football pools notation:
- 1 — the home team wins
- X — the match ends in a draw (equal score at full-time)
- 2 — the away team wins
The result is determined at 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalty shootouts — if the competition format allows them — are not included in the standard 1X2 market unless the bookmaker explicitly states "including extra time."
For domestic league matches, extra time is not part of the competition format, so this distinction never arises. For knockout rounds where extra time is possible, the bookmaker's market rules apply. When in doubt, the rules section of the specific market on each platform will clarify this.
A worked example
Match: Arsenal vs Chelsea.

If the match ends 2-1 to Arsenal: pick 1 wins, pick X loses, pick 2 loses.
How 1X2 is labelled across bookmakers
The market is identical on every platform but the column headers differ slightly:
